Victoria School of Contemporary Dance is one of the leading centres for contemporary dance training in Western Canada. VSC Dance is one of a handful of non commercial dance schools, Canada-wide, committed to cross-training that is grounded equally in the disciplines of modern dance and ballet technique. The result: non-patterned, versatile, adaptable contemporary dancers with solid modern and ballet training.

New to our Faculty this season is Stacy Sanderson who will be joining Kelly Hobson, Jung-ah Chung, Brandy Baybutt and Constance Cooke plus various guests artists throughout the season.
New to the programming this season is Conditioning for all ages, a new hip hop/ jazz class for kids, creative dance Stacy will be teaching these classes.
A new Contemporary Ballet class lead by Constance Cooke, is also new to the programming.

This programme is designed for the serious student, age 12 and up who wishes to pursue a professional career in dance. Careful attention is given to develop dancers who are self-directed, versatile, open-minded, physically confident, and who have a solid understanding of functional anatomy and creative expression. Individual Programming is created for each student; classes include modern technique, contemporary ballet, improvisation, repertoire, and conditioning. All Professional Students perform with one of our resident companies.
For Emerging Dance Professionals: This one year programme encourages artistic risk, adventure and gives young emerging professionals the opportunity to work with established professionals in the Canadian Contemporary Dance Scene. The Mentorship Programme includes: Movement Classes, Workshops and Coaching, acceptance into a semi professional contemporary company and an apprenticeship with Company Constance Cooke Dance, working along side established professional dancers, this is an opportunity to put into action the skills and tools honed in workshops and classes throughout the season. Careful attention is given to create specific programming that supports the individual needs of each dancer.

Artistic Director, Constance Cooke had a busy summer, in July she premiered Flightless Aviators & Angels at Dancing on The Edge in Vancouver with dancers Jung-Ah Chung, Leon Feizo Gas and Matthew Waldie. After that she was back to Victoria to lead the 2012 Dance For the Camera Intensive. Jung-ah Chung is in Vancouver working with Wen Wei Dance, she will also tour some of her work to Korea this season.
Alumni, Kayla Henry is now a full time company member with Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers, she will be back to premiere Triangular Forest at Romp in the Square Tuesday August 21. For more information go to the Suddenly Dance website. Kayla performed a excerpt of it in last season company show. Michael Kong graduated from Simon Fraser Dance Programme and is now a working professional.
Aria Evans graduated from York University and is now working as an independent dancer and dance videographer in Toronto.
Brianna Ferguson, Lulu May and Helena Colley are entering 3rd year at Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers, Senior Professional Programme, while Veronique Emmett is now in first year. Mahaila Patterson O’Brian is at SFU in the dance programme entering her 3 rd year, and Kylie Jensen is entering her 2nd year at York University Dance Programme.

Fizzik’l is a semi-professional contemporary dance company from Victoria, under the leadership of Canadian Dance Choreographer Constance Cooke.
This season the company will join Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers in Toward Light a special tribute performance to Rachel Browne at the Scotia Dance Centre In Vancouver.
This is part of a cross country tour Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers is doing to celebrate Founding Artistic Director, Rachel Browne who passed away at the Canada dance festival this summer.
This fall WCD company member Kristin Haight will travel to Victoria to mount, Willow Island, a piece Browne created in the 1990’s.
Browne is considered by many to be the mother of Canadian Modern Dance, Constance Cooke danced a number of her works including pieces that will be presented as part of this tribute.
Fizzikl’s Repetoire includes works by some of Canada’s leading performers and dance Creators: Josh Beamish (Move: The Company), Jung-Ah Chung (Wen Wei Dance, Suddenly Dance Theatre), Shay Kuebler (605 Collective), Ron Stewart (Battery Opera, Mascall Dance), Kelly Tyerman (Independent), Clinton Draper (Dance Makers) and Artistic Director Constance Cooke.
This season Fizzik’l will also be creating a number of new screendances with videographer Pamela Millar.
The Company most recently performed in Romp in the Square this past August, and has performed throughout Vancouver Island including many site - specific improvisations.
