Performance Companies
VSC Dance houses three Repertory Companies. Acceptance into the companies is by invitation or audition. All companies work with a variety of renowned guest choreographers and VSC Dance faculty throughout the year.
While the focus of these companies is on repertoire and performance opportunities, members also participate in dance-for-camera intensives, dance history seminars, performance laboratories, dance funding and grant writing seminars, and more.
Company members are encouraged to create their own work for KINECT - VSC Dance’s Student Choreographic Performance. The Companies have their own show every year at the lovely Metro Theatre.
Fizzik’l
Fizzik'l is VSC Dances Senior Performing Company. The company has worked with
Shay Kuebler from the 605 Collective, Clinton Draper formerly with Dancemakers , Ron Stewart (Battery Opera, Lola McLaughlin, EDAM , Mascall Dance) , Resident Choreographer Jung-Ah Chung ( Wen Wei Dance , Suddenly Dance Theatre) and Faculty members Kelly Tyerman and Constance Cooke.
Last season Fizzik’l premiered INCOMING a new Dance for Camera Work directed by Pamela Millar. This season the company welcomes guests Josh Beamish artistic director of MOVE: the company and Robert Halley who has danced with Ailey II , Dance Theatre David Earle and most recently in Asia in the cast of Wicked.
Acceptance into Fizzik’l is by audition, Company members must be taking at least one modern technique class with VSC Dance and be at an intermediate to advanced level in their training. If you are considering a professional career in dance this is a company you will want to dance with.
DanceVerbs
DanceVerbs is a Youth Company for young dancers. The company has had the opportunity to work with Kelly Tyerman & Constance Cooke on a variety of new dance works. Their latest piece Chatter was a delightful romp into to life of a teenager it included text about Body Types, Barbie and what they love about each other. This is an excellent opportunity for dancers age 12 and up to grow and expand their artistic vision.
There are no auditions but Company members must be taking at least one modern technique class with VSC Dance and be at an elementary level in their training.
Transitions
Transitions is an Adult Contemporary Dance Company based in Victoria BC.
Transitions has had the delight to work with Poet Paulette Turquotte, Playwright Heldor Schäfer, Videographer Pamela Millar and Choreographers Ron Stewart, Kelly Tyerman and Constance Cooke.
Transitions is Victoria’s only Contemporary Dance Company for Adults.
There are no auditions but Company members must be taking at least one modern technique class with VSC Dance and be at an intermediate or advanced level in their training.
Zazous is an improvisation performance collective for youth. Last season Zazous participated in a Flash Mob as part of Copenhagen 350, for Dance Days in the Store Front of Lulu Lemons and at Superior Café. There are no auditions for this Collective. Dancers need to be enrolled in a technique class with VSC Dance be willing to play and have improvisational skills.
